Health Officials: It was a simple mix up with numbers

Posted: Tue 5:44 PM, Mar 09, 2010

Knox County Health Department leaders are calling it a simple mix-up with numbers.

Last Friday, it was reported Knox County Health officials are finding 96 percent out of every one thousand teenage girls are getting pregnant.

Officials now say they misspoke and got the percentage and rate numbers switched.

Health leaders say new data shows it's actually nearly ten percent of Knox County teenage girls have gotten pregnant.

“I just want to clarify there was some confusion with the rate and with the number. While we are in the top ten, we are not number one,” Susan Liford said.

Officials say miscarriages and abortions are included in the data.
