In Laurel County, students and parents need to keep an eye on some new school policies. Some items will no longer be permitted on school property.

"One of the items that is restricted in the policy this year is any image capturing device," says Laurel County Schools Administrator Doug Phelps. "That could be a digital camera, that could also be a cell phone that has a camera in it."

"We've had some problems with cell phones with the camera," says Phelps. "There were some inappropriate pictures taken."

There's been another update about cell phones as well. In previous years cell phones were not allowed in the schools.

Phelps mentioned that cell phones can be useful for students involved in extra curricular activities or in the event of an emergency. There has also been an update on the school's absentee policy.

Laurel County schools open August first, but be sure to check with your own school for and dress code or policy updates. In Laurel County, Dara Rees, WYMT Mountain News.
