Company officials are excited, but overwhelmed at the response of so many people wanting to work for Halliburton. Executives had to extend the job fair hours just so everyone interested could apply.
Hundreds came to the fair in Prestonsburg today, at least 200 people showed up before one o'clock and several hundred applied last week at job fairs in Pikeville and Prestonsburg.
Less than half the applicants will be hired...Halliburton only has 150 positions available, but with starting salaries ranging from 35 to 52 thousand dollars a year with health benefits, a lot of Eastern Kentuckians want those jobs.
"It's been quite astronomical," says Billy Breeding a local Employment Office. "It's very positive with the number of people and the jobs they're bringing, there's interest, great interest. It's gonna have a great impact because of the addition of the economy that has not been here."
Halliburton managers are already whittling down the list of applicants of who they're interested in because work starts in just a few weeks, but it isn't too late to apply.
Halliburton managers are holding their last job fair tomorrow in Louisa.
