More than 300 jobs could be coming to a Southeastern Kentucky community. One city leader in London is saying it is just part of a much bigger trend of businesses coming to their town.
London is poised to get a new plant that officials say would boost the economy in the county.
"If you think in terms of a lot of the industry that's located here, it has to do with distribution of a product in many cases a perishable product," said Randy Smith with the London-Laurel Chamber of Commerce.
In a tentative deal, a canned product company named Truitt Brothers is talking with city and county officials to bring over three hundred jobs to the London area.
"I think it's exciting that three hundred jobs would be coming to London," said London resident Leighann Howard.
The new jobs could range in salary from $10 dollars an hour to $13 dollars an hour and officials say it could take up to two years to complete all new hires.
"There's a lot of people who are without jobs and if we're to get a new factory here in London, that would hire three hundred people of course more people would be able to work," said London resident Judy Hampton.
Officials hope the new deal will compliment the city and counties steady rate of economic growth.
"London, Laurel County is a growing community where a lot of communities may not be prosperous as quickly as we are," Smith said.
A prosperity many are saying Laurel County keeps seeing.
Officials are set to finalize a deal with the Truitt Brothers next week.
