Traffic stop turns into chase, crash, and a mobile meth lab discovery

The search is on in Martin County for a man sheriff's deputies say led them on a chase in a stolen truck with a mobile meth lab inside.

Deputies say the man escaped after he crashed the truck.

Deputies do not know who this man is but they want to find him.

The truck was stolen from West Virginia several days ago.

Investigators say a shake and bake meth lab made the situation even more dangerous.

What Martin County Sheriff's Deputies say was supposed to be just a traffic stop turned into a chase, a crash, and later a mobile meth lab clean-up.

It all started when the Sheriff says a deputy thought the driver of a truck was acting suspicious on old Route 3 near Johnson Bottom.

“He attempted to pull it over, and the vehicle ran on him,” Sheriff Garmon Preece said.

The deputy chased the truck for three miles until the truck turned onto Ratliff Town Road, went through a yard, and crashed near a creek.

“He was driving pretty fast through the yard and he had to stop because the creek was the next thing, he could hit the creek, and he stopped and got out of his truck and ran,” Sheriff Preece said.

Witnesses say the man ran through the woods and deputies could not find him. They looked at the truck for clues,

“That's when they found the meth lab in the back of the truck,” Sheriff Greece said.

Crews spent hours cleaning up the alleged shake and bake lab.

“Real dangerous, especially with this truck close to the water, if that bottle gets too close to the water, water gets inside the bottle, you got major problems,” Sheriff Preece said.

The scene is safe now. Deputies discovered the truck was stolen from West Virginia several days ago.

They do not know who the identity of the suspect.

“If someone's making meth, it's for one of two things, they're going to use it or sell it,” Preece said.

They want to find him as soon as possible.

If you have any information about who this man is or where he might be, call the Martin County Sheriff's Department.
