PIKEVILLE, KY - Two weeks ago, we told you about one Pike County girl who was asking for a different kind of Christmas present this year.
Nine-year-old Destiny Bevins says her Christmas wish was to help the homeless.
On Monday night, Bevins finally got to see her Christmas wish come true by handing out more than 20 blankets to residents at the WestCare Homeless Shelter in Pikeville.
For weeks, the fourth grader worked to collect quilts and blankets to give to folks who are in need.
Two months ago, Destiny was diagnosed with a brain tumor--but she says the diagnosis actually inspired her to pay it forward.
Residents at the shelter say they were thrilled to see that such a small girl has such a big heart.
Many of the residents said the blankets are special to them because it gives them something to call their own.
“This is going to be my Linus blanket. I’m going to keep it forever, it’s going to go with me where ever my travels take me,” said John Ruth, a resident at WestCare.
Employees said destiny is the youngest person to have ever donated to the homeless shelter.
Destiny says she wants to go back to the homeless shelter in a few weeks to make Christmas dinner for the residents.
