PIKEVILLE, KY - While many kids are busy writing their Christmas letters to Santa, one Pike County 4th grader wants a different kind of present this year.

9-year-old Destiny Bevins says all she wants for Christmas is to help the homeless.

Now Destiny needs your help to make her wish come true.

Destiny says she has many things to be thankful for, despite getting some unwelcome news last month.

“The doctors did a scan and then did an MRI and found out that she had a brain tumor,” said Destiny’s mother, Nicki.

But on her way home from the hospital, Destiny came up with an idea.

“When I came back I thought of doing something for the homeless so I thought let’s make blankets,” she said.

Destiny says her Christmas wish this year is to donate at least 30 blankets to the Pikeville homeless shelter.

Destiny said that she chose donate blankets and quilts to the homeless shelter this year because she feels like she's been given so much in her life, and she wanted to pay it forward.

The Bevins say it's always better to give than to receive.

Destiny says she wants to help others who are having a hard time this holiday season in the same way that God has helped her.

If you would like to send a blanket or quilt to help fulfill Destiny’s Christmas wish, you can send them to 6451 Zebulon Highway, Lot 6, Pikeville, KY, 41501.
