PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - When a city of 6,500 welcomes in 160,000 hillbillies for the weekend, things can get mighty busy.

Pikeville's 34th annual Hillbilly Days celebration kicks off Thursday, and organizers say they are expecting a record crowd.

The Appalachian News-Express reports city and county officials are working hard to get ready for the droves of people from both the eastern Kentucky region and all over the country who converge on Pikeville for the event.

More than 300 vendors will take care of food and drinks, and the three-day party will feature live music and dancing, a beauty pageant, games and activities, many with proceeds going to charity.
