A former Lexington Police Officer has filed a slander lawsuit against country music star John Michael Montgomery.

During a traffic stop last year Cromer pulled Montgomery over. But the suit says Montgomery met with LFUCG Internal Affairs to discuss Cromer.

It essentially accuses Montgomery of lying to the department.
The suit goes on to say despite being allegedly intoxicated during the arrest the country music star was still able to recall with detail what Cromer allegedly did wrong.

Cromer insists Montgomery made false allegations that he took a cowboy hat from Montgomery.

In the complaint obtained by the Lexington Herald Leader Cromer says he suffered emotional distress, and pure embarrassment.

Back in February, Cromer tried to keep his job during a public hearing which centered more on his comments and pictures posted on his myspace webpage, but this suit mentions nothing about the web site.

Instead, Cromer in the suit says, the country star abused the investigation and had an ulterior motive of harassing (him) in retaliation for the arrest.

Montgomery's attorney did not return phone calls from 27 NEWSFIRST Monday night about this lawsuit.
