Shelby Jean Coleman Takes The Stand

A fired Johnson County school payroll clerk accused stealing thousands of dollars from the school board took the stand in her own defense Wednesday afternoon.

Shelby Jean Coleman testified she never embezzled any money out of the school district's bank account, nor did she try to cover anything up. Coleman testified Wednesday she knew former finance director Peggy Vanhoose's son Michael got a paycheck while he was in jail, but she claims she was told Michael was doing work release through the jail and to put him on the payroll.

The jury could get the case Thursday.
