Some Primary Elections are not Over

One week ago ... voters went to the polls to cast their ballots ... but for some counties, the elections are not quite over.

Several counties are holding a recanvass ... where officials take another look at the results.

While officials say it was a decent turnout for Bell County voters... some candidates think the results are still too close to call.

That's why Bill Bisceglia is asking for a recanvass.
He lost his coroner race by just more than 30 votes.

"With a margin of only 33 votes... I owe that to myself and my supporters... just to make sure all the the figures are correct. I believe anyone would do that would a 33 vote margin. I can't think of anyone that's running that wouldn't do that," said Bisceglia.

Same goes for democrat Eddie Jones in the jailer race.

"Sometimes numbers can be transcribed differently than what we actually see. I just wanted it make sure that it was correct," said Jones.

While it's extra work for the clerk's office, election officials say rechecking the votes is a smart move.

"Peace of mind...that way you can see first hand what's going on. Anyone that has a close race should ask for one. I can't blame them for that... that's a good idea," said Bell County Clerk, Becky Blevins.

With such a tight race, Bisceglia might consider a recount.

"We will just have to see what the recanvass shows...if it doesn't change anything at all... probably not. But if it changes the numbers to any degree it's possibility," said Bisceglia.

Election officials will hold the recanvass on Thursday.

Several counties in our area, including Jackson and Magoffin, will recanvass votes in some races this week.

Officials tell us county clerks do not have to request the recanvass to the Secretary of States Office, so there is not a complete list on which counties will go through the process.
