Veterans are reflecting on the day 66 years ago when the brave men stormed the beaches of Normandy.
Perry County native Coleman Cornett was only 20 years old on June 6, 1944 when he and his company reached the enemy Germans at the Normandy beach head. He says more than half of his squad on D-Day, and still remembers every vivid detail of the battle.
"We got on top and the Germans were shooting straight at us. My buddy got shot and killed on the way up, but I kept going. I wouldn't quit," Coleman said.
Cornett moved back to Big Leatherwood after the war, and worked in construction for 50 years.
