A man's home goes up in flames in Johnson County.

It happened off Coleman Branch Road in the East Point community.

Crews were battling not only the fire, but hot temperatures as well when they got to the home of James Blair.

Crews were called to this house off Coleman Branch in East Point around One O'Clock Tuesday Afternoon.

“When we arrived, it was totally engulfed,” Ronnie Robinson with the West Van Lear Fire Department says. “It started in the back because it burned from the back to the front. The back section was two stories but unless you saw it in the beginning you wouldn't have known it.”

Robinson says no one was inside the house at the time of the fire.

The owner of the home, James Blair, was at work when someone called and told him his house was on fire.

Blair is saddened by the loss of the place he called home for more than 25 years.

“I built the house in 1984,” Blair says. “Built it, wired it, plumbed it. I dry walled it and everything. Raised five kids in it.”

Robinson and Blair are thankful no one was hurt.

“We had no injuries to the firemen that showed up and everybody turned out alright,” Robinson says.

“Everything can be replaced but a human life can't,” Blair says. “Thankful no one was hurt.”

For now... Blair will stay with family members until he can find another place to live. The cause of the fire is still not known.

Crews say it might take several days before they know what started the fire.
