Hundreds are in Pike County this weekend for the return of the RAM clinic.

The clinic provides free medical care for people who may not be able to otherwise afford it. Officials and volunteers have prepared for this weekend for months.

"For us to be able to work for these two days, and make a dent in the need that is there, is very rewarding," Dr. Andy Elliott, who helped organize RAM, said.

"It's crazy, and it's going to be. It's an organized chaos, it really is," Caroline Curtis, a dental volunteer, said.

Everyone here woke up well before 6:00 a.m., but no one was showing any signs of slowing down.

"Am I worn out? No no, this energizes you," Anita Bowman, a volunteer, said.

Bowman drove in from Williamsburg to help this weekend, and says it is important to take care of your neighbors.

"These people don't have health care. They don't have dental, vision, or medical access. This is a way for them to get this," Bowman said.

"This is the only place you can go to to get this done for free," Glenn Nolan, a patient, said.

Patients can get eyes checked, teeth examined, health screenings, and even see substance abuse counselors.

"I hope that they understand how to talk to their kids and their grandkids about drug abuse, and why it is important to start having those conversations at an early age," Karen Engle, with UNITE, said.

Nolan has not seen a dentist in four years, but is grateful he gets the chance now.

"Shows what an important event this really is. Please come out and take advantage of this free service. There may not be anything wrong with them, but you can never tell," Nolan said.

Volunteers have seen more than 700 patients on Saturday alone. Last year, there were 830 for the whole weekend.
