Extortion charge dropped

One extortion charge is dropped against a defendant in a recent vote fraud case in Clay County.

William Stivers, who was recently found guilty in a vote fraud case, was granted an acquittal for an attempted extortion charge.

Stivers was accused of attempting to extort money from at least eight people.

One witness said Stivers and former democratic commissioner Charles Wayne Jones told her she could not win a seat on city council without paying one thousand dollars.
