Kentucky National Guardsman Killed In Iraq

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky National Guard officials report
the death of a third soldier in less than a month. Adjutant General
Donald Storm says 19-year-old Private First Class Sammie Phillips
of Vine Grove was killed Monday when his vehicle overturned
while he was conducting a traffic control mission in Iraq.

Two other soldiers have died in just over two weeks. Staff
Sergeant Nicholas Carnes died August 26th during a fire fight in
Afghanistan and Staff Sergeant Delmar White died September first
when a roadside bomb exploded.

Phillips was assigned to Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 138th Field
Artillery, based in Carlisle.
