Dr. Michael Sekela works as a cardiothoracic and general surgeon at Saint Joseph Heart Institute in Lexington.
Sekela says he has had the privilege of helping people with cardiac issues in the Bluegrass. Now, Through a partnership between Appalachian Regional Healthcare and Saint Joseph Healthcare... Sekela's nearly 30 years of experience will be focused on the mountains.
“the transition will almost be seamless, the surgeon who's here is an excellent surgeon,” says Dr. Sekela.
Cardiac health services are already offered at the Appalachian Heart Institute at the Hazard ARH. Through the partnership with Saint Joseph ... cardiovascular surgery and advanced heart care services will be available.
“You’ll see a lot of screening and a lot of community outreach to educate folks that they really need to get into their doctors early,” says Michael Sekela, MD, Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
ARH officials say the partnership allows for advanced cardiac care closer to home.
“When we open the blocked artery it can save the life of the patient because it prevents the further damage of the heart attack. For services that we don't provide, they will be able to go to Saint Joe's and be cared for by the same physicians,” Vidya Yalamanchi, ARH Director Of Cardiology.
Officials with both hospitals say they hope the partnership grows over the years to offer more services to the people of Eastern Kentucky.
