A special grand jury is investigating allegations of criminal wrong doings by Whitley County Sheriff, Lawrence Hodge.
Commonwealth's Attorney Allen Trimble would not go into specifics but after getting several complaints about the sheriff's department, Trimble says it's time to look into the matter.
He wanted to wait until the election was over.
"Everyone needs to feel elected officials are doing the proper job and not violating the law," said Trimble.
Just a few months ago the state auditor referred findings in the Whitley County Sheriff's Department audits to the F.B.I. --concerning budget deficits of more than 200 thousand dollars.
In December, there was a break-in at the office and nearly 80 guns were unaccounted for.
Trimble is quick to point out just because a special grand jury is investigating, does not mean anyone is currently facing charges.
"I can't say anyone will be charged... all I can say is a grand jury is looking into it and is considering what's out there," said Trimble.
The sheriff could not be reached for comment.
He recently had a death in his family.
The special grand jury will determine if Lawrence Hodge should be indicted.
