A woman is dead after a single-car crash in Bell County.

Police say Darlene Wilder of Middlesboro was traveling east on Kentucky 188 when her Chevy Cavalier came around a curve and hit a dip in the pavement and became airborne.

The car went over a 40-foot embankment, hit a tree, overturned and came to rest upside-down in Yellow Creek in about five feet of water.

Police say witnesses turned the car over and pulled Wilder out.

Wilder was being taken by ambulance to a helicopter but stopped breathing before arriving and was taken instead to Pineville Community Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
