Judge Rutherford not happy over AEP rate increase, calls for new PSC

Pike County Judge Executive Wayne T. Rutherford is still upset about a rate increase by American Electric Power.

The Public Service Commission recently approved a 17-percent increase for residential customers and Rutherford is calling for change.

The increase comes after AEP announced a profit of more than 300 million in the past year.

Rutherford says the commission should have never approved the increase and dubs them "The Kentucky Utilities Commission".

He also questions why commercial customers only received a rate increase of six and a half percent.

Rutherford is calling for an elected commission instead of an appointed Kentucky public service commission.
