Family and friends remember former Pineville Police Chief, Steve Greene.

Greene served the town of Pineville for more than 15 years before moving to Michigan. He died suddenly earlier this week. Many he worked with in the police department called him a good friend.

"He'll be greatly missed by me and by the officers who served under him. He always kept in touch even after he left Pineville, so it was a good friendship," said Charles Matthews of the Pineville Police Department.

His former coworkers say he will be missed for many reasons.

"Just the friendship. It got to where we were fairly close. We would cut up with each other and tell jokes and stuff so I'm going to miss that more than anything," Matthews said.

His companion, Kathlen Sachs, says he loved to tell stories.

"Steven is one of the best story tellers you've ever heard in your life. He could go all night long telling a story of his adventures a officer a police officer and the chief of police both in Pineville and Ecorse, Michigan," Sachs explained.

Even though Greene lived in Michigan when he died, he always called Pineville home.

"Dedicated to the city of Pineville. He loved this city. To him, this place was heaven; absolute heaven. He couldn't wait for us to move back down here. This was where he wanted to be," she said.

Kathlen says he had a huge place in his heart for the people he once served and that he would want them to know that.

"That he loved them. He really did. He loved this city. He loved this part of the county. He thought there was no place on earth better than to be here in Bell county."

Steve Greene was 59 years old.
