Police: Man involved in accident steals car of good samaritan

Police say a man just involved in an accident stole the car of a good samaritan who stopped to help him.

37-year-old James Cornett of Big Laurel was driving south on Kentucky 510 in Harlan County when he lost control of his car and hit an embankment.

His passenger, 42-year-old Burley Jackson of Big Laurel, was hurt in the accident and had to be flown to a Tennessee hospital.

Police say Christopher Cornett of Bledsoe stopped to help and James Cornett stole his car and drove off.

James Cornett is not related to the good samaritan.

The car was later abandoned and recovered in Letcher County.

Charges are pending.
