Ky to receive more than $1 million in Labor grants

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky has been awarded more than $1 million in federal grants to provide education and training to young people in the state.

The U.S. Labor Department says Morehead State University will receive more than $373,000. The Young Adult Development in Action YouthBuild program in Hazard will be awarded $262,500, while a similar program in Louisville will receive more than $400,000.

YouthBuild programs help out-of-school youth obtain their diplomas or GEDs while providing occupational training.

Participants include youngsters in the juvenile justice system, high school dropouts and others.

The grants coming to Kentucky are part of more than $66 million for 183 community groups around the country.
