An early morning drug roundup takes police to an apartment complex right next to a high school.

WYMT's Angela Sparkman followed police on the roundup Tuesday morning to that apartment complex and elsewhere in Pike County.

Officers say they're not putting up with people selling drugs by schools.

Tuesday morning they took the suspects to jail and destroyed all the drugs they found.

An early morning drug raid busted Roger Thacker and Ruth Degeorge at the Carl D. Perkins apartments.

Neighbors were glad to see them go.

“It is full of drugs and we have prayed to get the drugs out of here,” Harold Davis said.

Officers wanted them out of there and away from students next door at Shelby Valley High School.

“It's dangerous for our students to have these type of people hanging around so close to our schools,” Sheriff “Fuzzy” Keesee said.

“It's nerve racking to have people that could be high right beside your school and they could come and do things,” Maggie Little said.

Sheriff Deputies claim more suspects were selling drugs down the road.

That's where they found an eight foot tall marijuana plant in the backyard!

Three family members went to jail.

The estimated four thousand dollars worth of pot went up in flames.

School UNITE club members believe the arrests could save classmates from drugs.

“I mean, it if's right next door to where your learning, then you're going to see that happen and it's going to influence you,” Little said.

Sheriff Deputies hope taking the dealers and drugs off the streets, save a student's life.

The 22 suspects are charged with drug trafficking and several face additional charges of selling drugs within one thousand yards of a school.

Officers also say there might be more arrests soon.
