Governor Steve Beshear is awarding the Bell County Fiscal Court more than eight million dollars by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to build an access road from U.S. 1-19 to the Asher Industrial Park.
The bridge to nowhere now has direction. Crews are planning to build an access road.
Officials say this construction is what the area needs to promote growth.
"We can pave that road and still not attract a client immediately...but if we do not pave the road the chances of getting anyone there are slim," said State Representative Rick Nelson.
While plans are still rocky, leaders hope to build three lanes from the bridge up to the industrial site.
Officials with the Bell County Fiscal Court are in charge of the project, so they can hire local contractors.
"Anytime you are in a recession and you can grow infrastructure... then that sets you to be ready when the recession ends to create jobs," said Albey Brock, Bell County Judge Executive.
This is near the site of the proposed power plant.
Leaders believe the new road will only improve the chances of getting the plant.
