The family resource and youth service center holds its annual "ready fest" at the Highland Church of God in Paintsville.
More than five hundred students showed up to receive free school supplies.

Crayons, scissors, glue, paper and folders. That's what Johnson County students like Skyler Collins came to get at the annual Ready Fest. Now they are be prepared to go back to school.

"You need supplies to get your work done so we make certain that kids have everything they need so they can be certain they get the best education possible," said Monica Whitaker, Family Resource Center liason.

All of the supplies were free and parents were extremely appreciative.

"You know, times are hard right now. When you got kids in school, sometimes the parents can't afford to do anything so this is great that the county is doing this for the kids," said Connie Clay, a grandparent who attended the drive.

Not only were school supplies, like rulers and pencils, handed out to the kids for school, but toiletry donations, were given to the pike county flood victims

"We had some extra. We do believe in helping our neighbors as well so we sent some hygenic supplies that we had on to Pike County so that they could get the benefit of the resources as well," said Tama Ramey of the Resource Center.

Several hundred pre-packaged boxes were sent to the flood victims. All of the school supplies were donated from businesses and organizations around the area.
