A long-time and respected teacher in Hazard dies

A long-time and respected teacher in Perry County has died.

Laura Lee Smith died Sunday at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center.

Smith was a typing instructor at Hazard High School for many years.

She was the named Woman of the Year at Hazard's Civic Night in 1988.

Her visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 at Maggard's Mountain View Chapel.

The funeral will be at Noon Thursday at Hazard's First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for more than 50 years.

Laura Lee Smith was 76.
