ARH attorneys want to add federal organization to lawsuit

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT/Lexington Herald Leader) - A lawsuit between an Eastern Kentucky hospital system and a Medicare provider could be a getting a little bigger soon.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports attorneys for Appalachian Regional Healthcare are trying to add the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as a defendant in the suit.

A motion filed Friday in federal court by ARH attorneys states the federal agency's failure to scrutinize the Cabinet for Health and Family Services has resulted in an unstable managed care system that is heading toward eventual collapse.

Officials for Medicare and Medicaid services declined to comment on Friday.

ARH filed the lawsuit against Coventry and the Cabinet For Health and Family Services in April of 2012.
