Ag Commissioner: Passing hemp legislation top priority

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer says passing hemp legislation will be his top priority in the next session of the state General Assembly.

Comer, a farmer himself, touted hemp's potential as he presided Wednesday over the first meeting of Kentucky Industrial Hemp Commission in a decade.

A dozen members of the commission passed around an automobile armrest made of hemp as one example of the crop's potential.

Comer called the meeting in Frankfort historic for Kentucky and said it is crucial that the state to be at the forefront of the hemp movement.
