June 14th is the day our flag was adopted in 1777.
In 1949, an act of congress established June 14th as National Flag Day.
In downtown Hazard, dozens of flags can be seen waving along Main Street.
Every year the local lion's club displays the flags to show patriotism.
"It is a reminder for everyone who drives down main street and the routes that we put these flags on 6 times a year on these patriotic days that shows everybody and gives them a reminder of how lucky we are to live in this country," said Mary Ann Guffey with the local Lion's Club.
The flags are also displayed on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day and September 11th.
