OIL SPRINGS, Ky. (WYMT) - Official identification of the two bodies found on the property of a missing Johnson County couple early Saturday morning is pending.
Officials say they are confident it is Larry and Sandara Blanton. The bodies are in Frankfort for autopsies and officials say the coroner's report should be finished by Monday evening.
OIL SPRINGS, Ky. (WYMT) - They have been missing for months but now Johnson County Sheriff's deputies believe they found the bodies of Larry and Sandara Blanton. Sheriff Dwayne Price says they acted on a tip Friday night and uncovered the bodies on the couple's property.
Officials at the Johnson County Sheriff's Office say it has been a long six month investigation in which they received hundreds of tips but none really provided any answers as to where the Blantons may be...until the tip received on Friday.
Officials have not stopped searching since last September. Sheriff Price says, "It has been a gruesome six months, it has been a nightmare for the family, and I feel for them."
On Friday, thanks to a tip, the Sheriff's Department finally had some answers. Sheriff Price explains, "The tip we got yesterday was concrete, we pretty much in our hearts believed that this tip was dead on."
Although they have searched the property many times before, officials say two bodies, believed to be Larry and Sandara Blanton, were found buried under a barn on the couple's property.
Once the tip came in Sheriff Price contacted county officials and activated the rescue squad. Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby says Sheriff Price called him with not many details, "He said meet me at a certain place and follow me where we are going to and this is where we ended up."
Officials say this has been a sad ending to a long, emotional search. Sheriff Price adds, "I feel their frustration and I just hope this can help with some closure for the family."
With the recovery of two bodies this investigation has officially moved from a missing person investigation to a homicide investigation. Previously, we reported that the Blanton's son, Willie Blanton, and his girlfriend, Amanda Fannin, were persons of interest in the couple's disappearance. Authorities have not filed any charges or made any arrests.
Official identification of the bodies is pending the results of the coroner's report but officials do say they are confident the bodies recovered are Larry and Sandara Blanton.
