Another southeastern Kentucky city joins the ranks of the smoke free.
Corbin City Council members met Wednesday morning to vote on the ordinance, which will ban smoking in all businesses.
It was a unanimous decision with a five to zero vote making Corbin a smoke free city
Originally, city leaders planned to vote on the ban on December 12th but Mayor Willard McBurney says time was of the essence.
This ordinance will forbid anyone to smoke inside any Corbin business or within twenty five feet of a business’s entrance. Mayor McBurney says he hopes the ban will influence those in the community to make healthier decisions.
Although the police will write the citations it will be up to the city code enforcement board to determine the fine for each violation.
Officials say violators can face up to a $150.00 fine for smoking in and around businesses, but it will ultimately be determined on an individual basis.
