Many people are filing their taxes this time of year, and waiting on their tax refunds.
But now officials are warning of a scam.
Officials in Pike County say several people have reported getting phone calls from a restricted number.
When they answer, they are told there was a problem with their tax refund and they are asked to give out personal information like bank account numbers so a direct deposit can be made.
Officials are warning people to be cautious of anyone asking for personal information over the phone.
“If you feel like it may be reputable ask them for a call back number. Call your local bank, call your local tax preparer or if you think they're reputable ask them to send it to you in writing,” Paul Maynard said.
Officials say if you get one of these calls, just hang up.
