KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) The Appalachian Regional Commission made its final stop in a four-day trip through Appalachia.

The group visited Union College's community garden, who has loaned out plots to groups in their community.

ARC and Union College officials say the partnership raises awareness about Appalachia's abilities to produce food and be self-sufficient while promoting healthy living.

"Right now we just have vegetables and herbs and plants," said Union event coordinator Monica Clouse, "It's really their own garden as long as it's organic. No non-organic pesticides, but I know there's some beans and corn. There's all kinds of different things."

School officials say the garden's produce will be sold at farmers markets beginning next month.
