PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - The cold and grey day outside matched the mood inside the Pike County Courthouse and across the community after Assistant Pike County Attorney Eddie Green lost his battle with cancer early Wednesday morning.

Pike County Judge Executive Wayne T. Rutherford says, "Pike County has a tear in its eye today and it is a loss of Assistant Pike County Attorney Eddie Green."

Colleagues say the 34 year-old was an outstanding attorney, described as having a terrific legal mind. Pike County District Court Judge Darrel Mullins says,"District court has been better because of Eddie Green."

More importantly they say Green was a remarkable person who loved the people of Pike County. Judge Rutherford says, "He loved this county, he loved the people, and he loved serving."

Judge Mullins explains, "He was a person, he was not just a lawyer and a prosecutor."

Those who knew Green say he touched everyone he came in contact with, even if it was with a simple smile.

Judge Rutherford recalls, "I saw him usually every morning on his way in to work and Eddie had just a little smile, no matter what you were talking about, he looked you in the eye, but that little smile...I will always remember."

Officials say it will be hard to continue on without that smile but Judge Rutherford says, "We will look for the Lord to give us the strength and wisdom and things that we have to to go on."

Strength to carry on the legacy Green left of serving Pike County with love, compassion, and respect.

Judge Mullins says Green will not soon be forgotten, "Eddie will be remembered for a long long time, in just a few short years he left a permanent mark on District Court and Pike County."

Visitation will be held at Lucas & Sons Funeral Home in Pikeville on Thursday January 17th, 6-11pm and Friday the 18th beginning at noon.

There will be another visitation time held at 11 a.m. in the Pikeville College Gymnasium. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.

In lieu of Flowers the family is asking donations be sent to the American Cancer Society:
