FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - It's the season in which people often open their wallets and give to help others, and Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway wants residents to make sure their money will be used to help those in need and not to benefit a scam artist.
Conway says donations to reputable charities can provide clothing or food for people who are struggling, but fraudulent groups take advantage of donors and prevent those who need help from receiving it.
Conway recommends donating to groups you trust, beware of unsolicited emails that appear to come from a legitimate charity but which may be an impostor and be cautious of solicitors who can't answer your questions.
