Attorney sues for records in hospital merger

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Jefferson County attorney has filed a
lawsuit in an effort to get records related to a proposed hospital
merger.

Mike O'Connell said that he filed suit in Jefferson Circuit
Court against the University of Louisville after it failed to
provide records he was seeking in the pending merger of University
Hospital, Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare and St. Joseph
Health System, which is based in Lexington.

O'Connell said at a press conference Tuesday that he got only
some of the documents he requested on Nov. 3 under the state's open records law, The Courier-Journal reported (http://cjky.it/t9aLi9).

Opponents of the proposed merger say University is public
institution and should not have to adhere to some Catholic health
directives, such as a ban on sterilizations. University has argued
that it is a private facility.
