Audit is referred to the Kentucky Attorney General's office

Posted: Tue 11:32 PM, Sep 27, 2011

A 2008 audit of the Perry County Sheriff's Office has been referred to the Kentucky Attorney General's Office.

The original audit was released in June of 2008 and found more than $500,000 missing from the tax accounts.

At the time, the audit was referred to the FBI for investigation.

The state auditor's office said it appeared an employee of the sheriff's office used unreported corporate franchise tax payments to replace undeposited cash taken after home owners had paid their property taxes.
