UPDATE: Judge finds Rowan County couple competent to stand trial in alleged abuse case

A Rowan County couple accused of abusing and neglecting their eight children will now face a judge.

Edith strange and Johnathan Prater were ruled competent to stand trial.

This comes after police say they let their children live in a home without heat, running water and electricity.

Police also say they found the remains of a premature infant buried near the home.

We are told they could face a judge in April of next year.

On Thursday in Rowan County, officers found the body of a premature baby at the home of two people already facing neglect charges.

Police say they went to the home of Johnathan Prater and Edith Strange on Igo Road this morning where they found the baby's body.

Prater and Strange already face abuse and neglect charges.

Police say they found nine children living in horrible conditions earlier this month.

The body of the baby was sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
