Bail denied for man accused of killing sheriff

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. (WYMT)- A judge denied bail for the man police say shot and killed a West Virginia sheriff earlier this year.

Tennis Melvin Maynard sought possible release terms at a Monday court hearing. His lawyers argue they saw no evidence of premeditation. Prosecutors say Maynard shot Sheriff Eugene Crum to death while he was eating lunch in April.

A tentative trial date is set for October 21st.
