BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - Barbourville Police are trying to identify a woman who stole a purse with thousands of dollars in it.

Police say surveillance video shows the woman taking an employee's purse at the Shell station on 25E in Barbourville.

The employee had just cashed her income tax return check, and police say the thief got away with three thousand dollars.

"Probably just a chance opportunity. She happened to see there was something sitting that nearby that she could grab hold of that might have something of value in it," said Det. Steve Owens.

The surveillance showed the woman leaving in a white car.

Anyone who knows who she is should call Barbourville Police.
