Barr speaks Tuesday afternoon at GOP's convention

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Republican congressional candidate Andy Barr is scheduled to speak at the GOP's national convention on Tuesday.

Barr, the Lexington lawyer challenging Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler in Kentucky's 6th District, is expected to talk about coal issues and the need for expanded domestic energy production.

Barr was originally scheduled to speak on Monday, but Tropical Storm Isaac forced a reshuffling. He is rescheduled for a midafternoon slot on Tuesday.

Chandler has said he won't be going to his party's national convention where President Barack Obama will officially receive the Democratic nomination.

Chandler and Barr are engaged in what is expected to be Kentucky's most competitive general election congressional race.

Barr sought a rematch with Chandler this year after losing a squeaker to him two years ago.
