Basketball court named after former governor

Posted: Tue 10:11 PM, Sep 06, 2011

Former Governor and University of Pikeville President Paul Patton got quite a surprise Tuesday morning.

The City of Pikeville Commissioners announced the basketball court at the East Kentucky Expo Center is now named "Paul Patton Court."

The honor pays tribute to Patton who helped get the Expo Center to Pikeville.

It's also where UPike plays its basketball games.

Patton said, "I'm pleased and really surprised. This is a great facility and I'm pleased to be a part of getting it here, but it took a lot of other people too."

Paul Patton's name is displayed on both sides of the court.
