In Floyd County, re-enactors are recreating the "Battle of Middle Creek" this weekend.
The 1862 Civil War battle pitted Kentuckians against Kentuckians on the fields in Floyd County.
Historians say the battle was the largest and most significant Civil War battle fought in eastern Kentucky.
President James A. Garfield and the Union prevailed.
Friday, re-enactors started the weekend educating elementary students about the history.
Saturday and Sunday, they will re-enact the battles.
