Paintsville Police call it one of the worst scenes they have ever witnessed.
They say a man beat a woman nearly to death and then allegedly tried to stab people who were rescuing her.
Paintsville Police believe the man would have killed the woman if people had not intervened. The woman says she is lucky to be alive.
The woman, whose name is not being released, barely remembers what happened inside the apartment on Sunday.
“I was scared. The first time he hit me, he hit me with a chair,” the woman said.
Police say 27 year old Franklin Ross beat and stabbed her repeatedly.
“It's the worst I've ever seen since I've been doing this,” Sgt. James Stamper said.
Doctors put 60 staples in her head. She also has broken bones and stab wounds.
“Blood was everywhere. There was blood in the ceiling in places. When we got there, he'd put her in the shower trying to clean away the blood and the crime scene. The bathroom actually looked like something out of the movie Scarface. When we actually got him out of the bathroom, his arms were covered in blood up to his elbows,” Sgt. Stamper said.
Police say before officers arrived, friends tried to rescue her and got her into a car. Officers say Ross started stabbing the car roof just above a toddler.
Police say it is a miracle the woman is alive.
“I had to stay alive because of my kids. They're my life. I guess what kept me awake, I knew, I kept in my head, if I let him knock me out, he would have killed me,” the woman said.
Ross has a list of charges including assault and unlawful imprisonment.
Ross is being held on a $50,000 full cash bond.
Police believe alcohol was involved but do not know a motive.
The case is going to the grand jury.
