Bell County church gives back to laid-off coal miners

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Laid-off coal miners and their families can get free toys and food this Saturday in Bell County.

Lighthouse Ministries workers say coal miners have donated money and other items through the years to their ministry, so they want to give back to miners who do not have jobs this year.

They will have toys, hats, and gloves for children and food bags.

It starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Old Bell High School gym off of US 119.

Sharon Teaney from Lighthouse Ministries says, “This year we wanted to do something to give back to them, so we're going to have a program for them, just fun for the whole family to come.”

They have enough items for more than 500 people.

You must show your mining card and proof of unemployment to receive the gifts and food.
