Benefits fair coming to Perry County

Posted: Mon 3:46 PM, Jul 23, 2012

Kentucky's jobless rate is holding steady around 8.2%.

This year's rate has dropped some since last year, but those numbers don't comfort many folks in our area who are still searching for jobs.

An upcoming benefits fair aims to help hundreds of Kentuckians who recently lost their jobs, especially in the coal industry.

The fair will provide folks with information on unemployment and how to properly prepare before losing their jobs.

Officials say the cutbacks in the coal industry is the main reason for the increase in unemployment numbers.

The Eastern Kentucky benefits fair will be held Thursday at the Perry County Jobsight in Hazard.

The fair will last from 10 am to 6 pm.
