Beshear to sign 'Don't Text & Drive' proclamation

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear wants to send a message to motorists, but not the kind that might distract them if they're behind the wheel.

Beshear is joining with officials from AT&T Kentucky and Kentucky State Police Wednesday as well as an automobile wreck survivor as the governor signs the "Don't Text and Drive Day" proclamation.

The group will also be announcing a campaign to encourage Kentuckians to pledge not to send text messages while driving. The event is taking place in the Capitol.

Kentucky passed a law against texting while driving two years ago.
