FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear is expected to weigh in
on a proposed merger of University Hospital in Louisville and two
other hospital systems by the end of the week.
Beshear told reporters he is expecting a report on the proposed
merger from Attorney General Jack Conway on Wednesday or Thursday
and will base his decision on that information.
Under the merger, University Hospital would join Jewish Hospital
& St. Mary's HealthCare and Saint Joseph Health System. The
proposed uniting with the religiously affiliated hospital systems
has raised eyebrows in Louisville. Some critics have questioned how
the merger would affect reproductive health care in the state's
largest city.
Beshear has authority to approve or reject the proposed merger.
