HAZARD, Ky (WYMT/Hazard Herald) - A bill pre-filed by State Representative Fitz Steele of Hazard would change how coal severance money is spent if approved by the legislature.
The Hazard Herald reports the bill would return 100% of coal severance tax money to the counties where it was produced.
Currently, half of the severance tax is put into the state's general fund and the other into the local government economic development fund.
